AIIMS Bhubaneswar Launches Liver Transplant, Robotic Surgery

AIIMS Bhubaneswar has launched a liver transplant program and a robotic surgery system. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda inaugurated the facilities virtually. These additions aim to improve healthcare access in Odisha and Eastern India.

New Healthcare Services at AIIMS Bhubaneswar

The new liver transplant unit and advanced robotic surgery system were launched at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Minister Nadda stated these facilities will strengthen the institute’s healthcare infrastructure. They are expected to provide advanced, life-saving treatments.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar already performs kidney and bone marrow transplants. The liver transplant program marks a major expansion of its tertiary healthcare services.

Focus on Organ Donation and Patient Access

Minister Nadda emphasized organ donation as a national priority. He linked the liver transplant program launch to the prime minister’s call for a mass movement on organ donation. This initiative aligns with the national vision.

The new liver transplant facility will offer advanced treatment for end-stage liver disease. Patients in Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, and neighboring states will benefit. Economically disadvantaged patients can receive treatment and follow-up care without financial strain.

This program aims to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for care.
