AICTE IBM Launch National AI Lab for Advanced AI Skills

NEW DELHI – The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and IBM have established a National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab. Located at AICTE headquarters in New Delhi, the lab aims to advance AI research, training, and innovation across India. This partnership was announced at an IBM corporate social responsibility event. It focuses on developing a skilled workforce for the future.

National AI Lab Facilities

The National AI Lab provides essential computing infrastructure. This includes powerful servers and specialized hardware for AI development and experimentation. It also features advanced AI software platforms. These platforms offer tools for machine learning, deep learning, and data analytics. A comprehensive digital repository will be accessible to all AICTE-affiliated institutions. This repository will contain learning materials, datasets, and research papers. These resources will support students, faculty, and researchers in their AI studies and projects.

Targeted Training and Skill Development

The lab will offer a range of specialized training programs. These programs are designed for students, faculty members, and researchers from technical institutions nationwide. The curriculum focuses on developing future-ready skills crucial for the evolving job market. Key areas include advanced AI concepts, cloud technologies for scalable computing, and sustainability applications of AI. The training aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in these high-demand fields.

Support from IBM SkillsBuild

IBM SkillsBuild, IBM’s global education platform, supports the new AI Lab. This platform provides free access to over 1,000 online courses. These courses cover various technical domains relevant to AI and cloud computing. IBM has set ambitious global goals for skill development. The company aims to skill 30 million people worldwide by 2030. A target includes skilling 2 million individuals in AI by 2026. The National AI Lab expands IBM SkillsBuild’s reach and impact within India’s technical education ecosystem.

Practical Learning and Industry Mentorship

The National AI Lab emphasizes practical, real-world learning. It will conduct regular in-person workshops. These workshops provide hands-on training with AI tools and applications. Mentorship programs will connect participants with experienced IBM experts. These mentors will offer guidance on complex projects and career pathways. Project-based learning sessions will allow students to apply theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems. The lab will also host innovation challenges. These challenges will encourage creative solutions to real-world issues using AI technologies.

Boosting Technical Education and Innovation

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan commented on the collaboration. He stated the AICTE-IBM partnership aligns with the Government of India’s policy. This policy prioritizes industry-academia partnerships to strengthen technical education. It also aims to foster innovation nationwide. Pradhan highlighted the initiative’s potential. He said it would enhance the quality of technical education. It will also empower Indian youth with industry-relevant skills. This strategic move aims to solidify India’s position as a global hub for future technologies and a skilled workforce.

Justina Nixon-Saintil, IBM Vice President and Chief Impact Officer, reinforced the lab’s importance. She stated that combining IBM SkillsBuild with the AI Lab’s advanced resources provides significant support. This support helps Indian students and educators build essential capabilities. These capabilities address significant societal challenges. Nixon-Saintil emphasized the goal is to create impact at scale across the country, preparing a new generation for the AI-driven future.
