AIBE XX Results Out: 1.74 Lakh Qualify for Law Practice

The Bar Council of India (BCI) recently announced results for the All India Bar Examination XX (AIBE 20). A total of 1,74,386 candidates qualified to practice law in India. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of qualified candidates. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry achieved the highest pass rate among all states and union territories.

The AIBE XX exam took place on November 30 . It was conducted across 399 centers in 56 cities. Candidates must qualify this examination to receive a Certificate of Practice. This certificate is a mandatory requirement for law practice in India.

Exam Participation and Overall Results

A total of 2,51,968 candidates appeared for AIBE XX. Of these, 1,74,386 qualified. This translates to an overall pass rate of 69.21% . The BCI calculated results out of 95 marks. Five questions were withdrawn from the final answer key before calculation.

The BCI set specific qualifying marks. General and OBC category candidates needed 43 marks (45%). SC, ST, and PwD categories required 38 marks (40%) to qualify.

Performance by Gender

Female candidates demonstrated a higher pass rate compared to male candidates. The data shows:

The unreserved category secured the highest pass rate. SC category candidates outperformed both OBC and ST categories.

State-wise Performance Overview

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry registered the highest qualification rate at 86.49% . The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir followed with an 84.59% pass rate. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Kerala also reported high pass rates.

Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of qualified candidates. A total of 23,911 candidates from Uttar Pradesh successfully cleared the exam. Candidates who appeared under the “undertaking category” showed a pass rate of 74.23%, exceeding the overall average.
