IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. The application also requires the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.

Referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities. This information is detailed in the institute’s official notification.

Academic and Language Proficiency Scores

To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • Indian Entrance Exams: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
  • International Exams: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, Cambridge English Examination, or other recognized language tests.

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on the candidate’s performance during an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. The interview panel will evaluate candidates based on their academic background and suitability for the program.
