Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline for international students is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the 2026-27 academic year.
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Submission of scores from standardized tests may be required. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)

English language proficiency test scores are also necessary. Accepted tests include:

Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The committee will evaluate candidates for their suitability for advanced study and research.
