IIT Delhi has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are open for the 2026-27 academic year. Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) status, are eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Application Process
Candidates must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website:international.iitd.ac.in. Applicants need to submit a statement of English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. Scores from international examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
International applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview assesses a candidate’s suitability for advanced study and research.
