IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. The deadline for submission is March 30, 2026 , by 4:00 PM.

International candidates, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They will also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. Referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills, according to the institute’s notification.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) award.

International examination scores are also considered. Candidates may submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, or equivalent.

Selection Process

Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
