The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.
International candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in . The application portal closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must demonstrate English proficiency.
Applicants need to submit a self-declaration of English language skills. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will assess applications based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
Additional requirements may include scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores may also be considered. This includes Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English Proficiency Tests
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
