Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Open for Foreign Nationals
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27 .
Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in . The application portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 .
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities, according to official notifications.
Eligibility and Test Scores
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
English Proficiency Tests
Candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores include those from:
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- TOEIC
- OPI
- OPIC
- Cambridge English Examination
- Other recognized language tests
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview.
Students with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic disciplines.
