IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students . The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Eligibility is open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applications are for the academic years 2026-27.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees. These referees will be asked to submit recommendation letters.
The official notification states referees will comment on candidate aptitude. They will assess proficiency in the chosen field. Research potential and independent thinking will also be evaluated. English language proficiency, both oral and written, is a key assessment area.
Academic and Entrance Exam Scores
To be eligible for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE)
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English Proficiency Tests
Candidates must also demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include:
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- TOEIC
- OPI
- OPIC
- Cambridge English Examination

Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. IIT Delhi will invite candidates with strong academic records. The interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
