Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are accepted from foreign nationals for the academic year 2026-27. The application portal closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Interested students can apply through the official website: international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. Two referees who can provide recommendation letters are also required.
Referees will assess candidates on their overall aptitude. They will also comment on proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking will be evaluated. English proficiency, both oral and written, is a key assessment point.
Academic and Entrance Exam Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other accepted tests are the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores are also considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores are also relevant.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on performance during an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. The interview panel will comprise faculty members from the relevant discipline. The committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
Additional English language proficiency test scores may be required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be considered.
