IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
The programs are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must declare their English language proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
These referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The official notification states these referees will comment on these specific areas.
Academic and Language Proficiency Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Applicants must also submit scores from English proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Those with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interviews.
