The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.
Interested students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
The application portal will close at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 .
Application Requirements
Applicants need to submit a statement declaring English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national or international tests. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
English Proficiency Tests
Candidates must also submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include:
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- TOEIC
- OPI
- OPIC
- Cambridge English Examination
- Other equivalent language tests
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
