IIT Delhi has opened applications for international students. Applications are for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals can apply. This includes students with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. The application window closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026.
Admission Process for International Students
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees. Referees will submit recommendation letters. These letters will comment on the applicant’s aptitude. They will also assess the candidate’s field proficiency. Potential for research and independent thinking are evaluated. English language skills are also assessed.
Some applicants may need to submit scores from specific entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Scores from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) are also accepted. Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores can be used.
International examinations are also considered. Scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) are accepted. Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores are also valid.
English language proficiency tests are required. Acceptable tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Criteria
Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. A committee of faculty members will conduct the interview. The committee is from the relevant academic discipline.
