IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students . The application window remains open until March 30, 2026 , with applications closing at 4:00 PM IST.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) tests, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) award.
International applicants may submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency must be demonstrated through scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview will evaluate their suitability for the program.
