The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Eligible candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. This admission cycle is for the academic years 2026-27.
Admission Eligibility
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to submit a self-declaration and provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities, according to the official notification.
Required Test Scores
In addition to academic qualifications, applicants may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) for PhD and PG programs.
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. English proficiency test scores from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination may be required.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited for interviews with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview committee will evaluate their suitability for the program.
