IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals can submit applications for PhD and PG courses for the 2026-27 academic session. Applications are managed through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 p.m. on the application deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

Individuals who are not Indian citizens are eligible. This includes those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. The application requires the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.

Referee Requirements

Referees will assess candidates based on several factors. These include overall aptitude, subject-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking abilities, and oral and written English skills. This assessment is detailed in the official admission notification.

Admission Process and Requirements

IIT Delhi may require scores from national or international entrance examinations. Potential exams include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE. International tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.

Selection Procedure

Final admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
