IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, can apply. Applications are for the 2026-27 academic year. Interested students must visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in to submit their applications.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. The referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility Criteria and Scores
To be eligible for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national tests like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) , Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) , University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) , or DST INSPIRE .
Scores from international examinations such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be required. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL , IELTS , TOEIC , OPI , OPIC , and Cambridge English Examination , among others.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic disciplines.
