IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate programs. The application window is open for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
The deadline for submitting applications is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . This application period is for foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration confirming their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores are also accepted. These include:
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include:
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- TOEIC
- OPI
- OPIC
- Cambridge English Examination
- Other recognized language tests
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The committee will assess candidates based on their academic background and interview performance.
