IIT Bombay hostel mess menus have been temporarily altered due to a shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders on campus. The changes aim to reduce cooking gas consumption while maintaining regular meal services for students.
Menu Adjustments to Conserve LPG
The mess management implemented revised menus to address the LPG shortage impacting hostel kitchens. Several dishes requiring extended cooking times and higher fuel usage have been removed or simplified.
The institute is prioritizing meals that demand less cooking time and fuel. This strategic adjustment ensures continued food availability for students during the temporary gas supply issue.
Specific Menu Changes
The number of dishes offered during lunch and dinner has been reduced. For instance, students may receive one main vegetable dish instead of multiple options.
Elaborate and fried food items are temporarily unavailable. Desserts that require cooking have been replaced with simpler choices like fresh fruit or milkshakes on select days.
Duration of Changes
Institute officials stated these menu modifications are temporary. The regular hostel mess menu is expected to resume once the LPG supply situation stabilizes.
The institute will continue operating the messes with the simplified menu. This ensures ongoing, consistent food service for all students.
