IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, can apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students must visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in to submit their applications.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted for recommendation letters.

The notification states referees will assess candidates on their aptitude. They will also evaluate proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking will be assessed. Oral and written English proficiency is also a factor.

Eligibility and Scores

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) scores are also relevant.

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores can also be submitted. International examination scores are accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English language proficiency test scores are also necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations.

The interview committee will comprise faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The interview aims to assess a candidate’s suitability for the program. Specific details regarding interview dates and format will be communicated to shortlisted candidates.
