IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The application window closes at 4 p.m. on the deadline date.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration statement. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) tests, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The interview will assess the candidate’s suitability for advanced study and research.
