IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website,international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. They will need to provide a self-declaration regarding their English skills.
The application process requires two recommendation letters. Referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores are also accepted.
Accepted international tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates are also required to submit scores from recognized English proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with a strong academic record will receive an invitation to interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interviews. This final selection stage evaluates a candidate’s suitability for the program.
