Admissions Overview
The application portal is open for foreign nationals seeking admission for the 2026-27 academic year. This includes individuals with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They will also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, and English language skills. This process aims to assess the candidate’s suitability for advanced academic study and research at IIT Delhi.
Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs extends to non-Indian nationals. Applicants may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered. Furthermore, candidates must provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on the candidate’s performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will receive an invitation to interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interviews.
The interview panel will assess the candidate’s overall suitability for the chosen program. This includes their academic background, research interests, and potential to contribute to the academic community at IIT Delhi.
