IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
The programs are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills.
Application Requirements
Applicants must list two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. Referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. The application portal closes at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 .
Academic and Language Proficiency
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International exam scores like GRE and GMAT may also be considered.
International students must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
