IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27.
Interested students must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal will remain open until 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. This information is according to the official notification.
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews.
The interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This process aims to assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
