IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Foreign nationals can apply through the official website, international.iitd.ac.in .

The application deadline for the academic year 2026-27 is March 30, 2026 . Applications will be accepted until 4 PM on this date.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency.

Candidates must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

Admission Requirements

IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. These are often prerequisites for PhD and PG programs.

International examination scores are also considered. Accepted tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Acceptable tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Final admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records receive interview invitations. The interview panel consists of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
