IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Eligibility and Requirements

Applications are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of their English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit letters of recommendation.

Referees will be asked to assess candidates on their overall aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and oral and written English abilities. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.

Academic Qualifications and Entrance Exams

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.

Candidates must also submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be acceptable.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi programs for international students will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. This interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview panel will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
