IIT Delhi has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-2027 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Admission Details
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. Two referees will be contacted for recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
While specific academic requirements for each program vary, IIT Delhi may consider scores from national entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and the DST INSPIRE program.
International applicants may also submit scores from standardized tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency must be demonstrated through tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission to PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi for international students is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
