IIT Delhi PhD/PG Admissions for International Students 2026

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

The application portal will remain open until 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 .

Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills, according to official notifications.

To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Indian exams like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Admission to IIT Delhi’s programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline.

Applicants also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
