IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being processed for the academic year 2026-27.
Admission Process Overview
The application portal for foreign nationals is located at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal will close at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 . Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referee Recommendations
According to the official notification, referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, both written and oral.
Eligibility and Entrance Exams
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English Proficiency Requirements
Candidates must submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Criteria
Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee will assess their suitability for the program.
