IIT Delhi has opened applications for international students pursuing PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are accepted through the official website: international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Process
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include India’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program is also accepted.
International test scores are also considered. Candidates may submit results from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Proficiency in English language tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination is also required.
Selection Criteria
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The interview panel will evaluate candidates for their suitability for the program.
The application portal closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026 . Prospective students are advised to check the official IIT Delhi international admissions website for detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures.
