IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-2027 academic year. The application portal is open until March 30, 2026, 4:00 PM IST .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Candidates can submit their applications online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores are also accepted. These include:
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
Additionally, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi programs is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. This interview panel will evaluate the candidate’s suitability for the program.
