Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Open for International Students
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
The application window closes at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 . The institute seeks to fill spots in its PhD and various PG courses.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees. These referees will be contacted to submit recommendation letters.
According to the official notification, referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Furthermore, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will receive an invitation for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
