IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application portal is available at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Process
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
