The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Open for International Students
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.
The application portal is accessible via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in . The portal will close on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. IST.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. This statement serves as a self-declaration of their language skills.
Candidates must also provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters. The notification states referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility and Testing
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited for an interview.
The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This interview is a key component of the selection process.
