The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline for submissions is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Candidates also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
In addition to academic qualifications, candidates may need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
The application portal will remain open until 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026. This is for admissions for the academic year 2026-27.
