IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application portal is located at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal will close at 4 p.m. on the application deadline.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field-specific skills, research potential, and English communication abilities.
While not always mandatory, IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants may also submit scores from tests like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency test scores are also required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The committee will evaluate their potential for research and independent thought.
