The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications online at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Details for International Students
The application window for international candidates, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, is open until 4 PM on March 30, 2026. Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English language proficiency.
Candidates are also required to name two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide letters of recommendation. Their comments will focus on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility and Entrance Examinations
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).
International examination scores are also considered. Eligible tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
In addition to academic qualifications, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview assesses their suitability for the program.
