IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Details for Foreign Nationals

The application window is open until 4 PM on March 30, 2026 . This opportunity is available to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement of English language proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referee Assessment

Referees will evaluate candidates on several factors. These include overall aptitude, proficiency in their chosen field, and potential for research and independent thinking. They will also assess English speaking and writing abilities. This information is according to the official admission notification.

Eligibility and Entrance Exams

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require specific test scores. Candidates might need to submit scores from Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also an option. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.

English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive invitations for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The institute expects candidates to present their qualifications and suitability for advanced study.
