IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Admissions Overview

International candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in. The application window closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They must also provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.

The referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on several points. These include overall aptitude and field-specific proficiency. Potential for research and independent thinking are also assessed. English oral and written proficiency will be reviewed.

Required Test Scores

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require specific test scores. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). Scores from Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) may also be considered.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a faculty committee in the relevant discipline.
