IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026 .

Admissions Open for International Students

Foreign nationals can apply for admission to PhD and PG courses for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applications are accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills. Two referees who can supply recommendation letters are also required.

Referee Recommendations

Referees will be asked to assess candidates on several key areas. These include overall aptitude, proficiency in the chosen field, research potential, independent thinking skills, and spoken and written English ability. This information is outlined in the official notification.

Admission Requirements

IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. For PhD and PG programs, applicants might need to submit scores from Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other relevant tests include Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme is also mentioned.

International examinations are also considered. Candidates may submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is another accepted international exam.

English language proficiency tests are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other equivalent language tests may also be considered.

Selection Process

Admission decisions are based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. An interview committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interview.
