Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m.
Eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The application window is open for the academic years 2026-27.
Eligibility Criteria
Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a self-declaration of English language skills.
Candidates must also provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters. The notification states referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission Requirements
Submission of scores from standardized tests may be required. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. For PhD and PG programs, international test scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
English proficiency test scores from examinations like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English are necessary. IIT Delhi will conduct interviews for admission. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations.
The interview committee will comprise faculty members from the relevant discipline. Admission decisions will be based on the interview performance and overall application strength.
