Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admission Process
Applications are submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in. Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to name two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities. IIT Delhi will use these assessments as part of the selection process.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs requires specific test scores. Candidates may need to submit scores from exams like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program scores are also considered.
For international applicants, scores from tests such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are accepted. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. This can be demonstrated through scores from tests including TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview panel will evaluate the candidate’s suitability for the program.
The application window is open for the academic years 2026-27. Interested students should visit the IIT Delhi international admissions website for detailed program information and application procedures.
