IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are submitted online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Additional requirements may include scores from standardized tests. These can be national tests like Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International tests such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Candidates must submit scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The interview panel will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
