Admission Details
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
The application portal will remain open until 4 pm on March 30, 2026 .
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.
Academic and Language Proficiency Tests
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. Acceptable tests include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be shown through scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG courses will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
