IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, can apply online. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. The application portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 .
Interested candidates must provide a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to list two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude and potential. Comments will include proficiency in the chosen field, research ability, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission Requirements
IIT Delhi uses multiple criteria for admissions. These include scores from various national and international examinations.
Candidates may need to submit scores from exams such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other acceptable scores include those from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview.
The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. They will assess candidates’ suitability for the program.
English proficiency test scores are also required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other equivalent language tests may also be considered.
