The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible to apply. Prospective students must submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They also need to list two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities.
Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
English Proficiency Tests
All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations, among others.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on the candidate’s performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
