IIT Delhi has opened admissions for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Eligibility and Application Requirements
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Admission Process and Criteria
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include national-level Indian examinations such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International applicants may also submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English proficiency test scores from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination are also required.
The final selection is based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee evaluates their suitability for the program.
