IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application portal will close on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Interested candidates must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Application Process and Requirements
The referees will be asked to assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is part of the official admission notification.
Applicants may need to submit scores from national-level entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline.
Candidates must also submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
